Düsseldorf and Potsdam win school finals in Berlin

The national winner of the girls this year was the team from North Rhine-Westphalia. The fighters from the Lessing-Gymnasium and vocational college in Düsseldorf were able to prevail 3:2 against the team from the Bertolt Brecht School in Nuremberg (Bavaria) in exciting final fights and win the title for themselves.

The boys’ team from the Potsdam “Friedrich Ludwig Jahn” sports school (Brandenburg) was able to beat the hosts of the Berlin school and competitive sports center by a very narrow margin of 3:2 (underrating 21:20) and bring the title to Brandenburg.

Third place this year went to the girls from the Gymnasium am Kaiserdom Speyer (Rhineland-Palatinate), who beat the team from the Potsdam “Friedrich Ludwig Jahn” sports school (Brandenburg) 3-2.

In the boys, the fighters from the district school Alter Teichweg Hamburg (Hamburg) defeated the team from the Jena sports high school “Joh. Chr. Fr. Guts-Muths” (Thuringia) with 3:2 and thus also secured third place.

This year, the fairness prize was awarded to the supervisory team of the Ruhr-Gymnasium Witten from North Rhine-Westphalia. The two supervisors, Christopher Knier and Marco Kämmers, agreed without hesitation to include another team in their pool, so that a fairer distribution of all teams to the preliminary round pools could be guaranteed. They gave up a secure place among the top eight teams.

The prize for the fastest Ippon went to Catalina Saenz from the school and competitive sports center in Berlin. It took her just six seconds to throw her opponent to the mat.

The young talent prize for the best newcomers was also awarded for the first time. Svea Mühe and Luc Unland from the Gymnasium Himmelsthür Hildesheim have only been practicing judo for about three months, but they still performed very courageously here in Berlin and each won a fight.

For the experienced athletes, the technology prize was awarded to Luisa Kaiser from the Potsdam “Friedrich Ludwig Jahn” sports school from Brandenburg and to Lasse Rauen from the school and competitive sports center in Berlin for particularly beautiful throws and transitions.

The entire competition in the sports hall in Adlershof was once again characterized by a positive, atmospheric atmosphere and a friendly atmosphere. During the final fights in particular, the atmosphere reached its peak, the young fighters were loudly cheered on by their teams and fought exciting duels.

Tomorrow, on the third day of competition, the mixed team competition will take place for the second time at the federal final “Jugend trains” Judo in Berlin. This competition was introduced for the first time in 2019 and met with a positive response from the organizers as well as from coaches and athlete teams. The mixed team competition is a voluntary team competition in which male and female fighters from six weight classes (three girls and three boys) from the same national association start together. The report was made at the end of the second day of competition by the respective team supervisors. Each team has at least two fights, there is a main round to the final and a consolation round for the two third places. Fighting is always alternating (girls/boys).
