Despite the fracture in her elbow, Annemiek van Vleuten can start next night at the World Championships on the road. This was announced by the KNWU cycling association on Friday afternoon.

“A final test today showed that the recovery was sufficient to participate,” the union wrote on Twitter.

Van Vleuten suffered the fracture on Wednesday after a fall during the mixed team time trial. A day later she was able to train on the bike again, but standing on the pedals was not yet possible. “Certainly on such a course you should be able to do that,” said Van Vleuten on Thursday.

Stand on the pedals

On Friday, Van Vleuten got back on his bike to train with part of the Dutch selection. “It went pretty well in itself, she was able to stand a few times,” said national coach Loes Gunnewijk. “That’s positive.”

Before the KNWU announced that Van Vleuten will be driving, we made the report below about the last training day.

World Cup participation Van Vleuten still uncertain, she can stand on the pedals again

Immediately after the training, Van Vleuten announced that standing on the pedals and pulling the steering wheel was not yet going well. “We should all talk about it later, but it looks positive,” said the national coach.

A few hours after that last training, the decision was made that Van Vleuten would appear at the start.

The women’s road race will be completed in the night from Friday to Saturday. The men will ride the World Cup in the night from Saturday to Sunday.
