Deportivo Cali made a decision with Mayer Candelo after aggression from fans

Date 13 of the Liga BetPlay II-2022 was marred by an act of severe vandalism by the fans of Deportivo Cali. An act of protest, nothing justifiable, attacked the sugar plantation until they left the field between insults and even blows.

About the 80th minute of the game in the duel between Cortuluá and Deportivo Cali, Hundreds of fans broke into the tranquility of the sporting spectacle to face the players and coaching staff of the sugar team. From one moment to another, a wave of fans entered the playing field of the 12 de Octubre stadium, in Tuluá, to face the squad, motivated by the poor results.

For several minutes, uncertainty took over the sports venue, where the people who stayed in the stands began to film everything to upload it to social networks.

After everything that happened, this Thursday, after the respective conversations between the coaching staff and managers, the club announced that Mayer Candelo will no longer be the coach of Deportivo Cali.

“The Asociación Deportivo Cali informs its associates, fans, the media and public opinion in general that, by mutual agreement, Professor Mayer Andrés Candelo has ceased to be the technical director of our professional team,” the statement begins.

In addition, the sugar group thanked Mayer and his coaching staff for “the commitment, dedication and professionalism in each of their actions”, also wishing them “the greatest success in their future professional projects”.

On the other hand, they reported thatSantiago Angulo will be in charge of the professional team while the Executive Committee chooses the technical director in property”.

On the state of health of the 45-year-old coach from Cali, WEEK He was able to know that he is well and it did not happen to adults. That information was supplied by Darío ‘Chusco’ Sierra, technical assistant Mayer Candelo: “We are fine, Mayer is physically fine and the players too”, he said once the spirits fell in Tuluá.

In addition, he said that the bank immediately tried to protect themselves, especially to take care of the integrity of Mayer Candelo, who, like Teo, was one of the most criticized on that terrible afternoon for Colombian soccer.

Here at the bank we tried to protect ourselves, Mayer and those of us who were closest. My first reaction was to try to shield Mayer, protect him because they were coming from all sides.”

“Hopefully it will be an event that will not be repeated in Colombian and world soccer,” he added. In addition, he recounted the anguished moments that they had to live: “You see that people are entering from the eastern stand, towards the western stand and the first one I see that they grab is Teo.”

“I ask Teo: what happened to him? but he tells me that they hugged him tight, but they didn’t attack him”, he counted.

With the 2-0 defeat against Cortuluá, the Verdiblanco del Valle team was in last position (20) in the table and thus exacerbates its sports crisis, which in turn is also institutional and economic. The next game will be on Monday, September 26 when they host La Equidad on the 14th date, a duel that will surely take place behind closed doors.
