Controversy in local basketball: Date suspended and crossing between the Association and the referees

The official competition of the Córdoba Association of Basketball was stopped during this weekend after the decision to suspend the date by the entity itself accusing the refereeing body of not wanting to direct. From the sidewalk in front, the judges themselves made their defense.

The reason that triggered this crossover between the institutions was the aggression (punch and kick) to a referee at the end of a U15 category match that was played, without problems, on the Unión Eléctrica court at the end of August, being the The first match that was played after the one-month suspension of that stadium, also due to an act of violence.

According to the judges themselves, “the Unión Eléctrica delegate did not want to provide the details of the aggressor, saying that he did not know him, when he was talking to him all night.”

Given this, the Córdoba Branch of the Argentine Association of Referees sent an email to the Association asking for the quick intervention of the Court of Penalties since the next day other games were to be played in the same stadium and their safety was not guaranteed.

There were calls and meetings between the parties throughout the week and, from the referees they warned, as in the first email, that they were not going to direct the club in question until the sanction of the relevant court is issued, noting that the rest of the the matches were to be refereed as scheduled.

This is how the entity that governs the destinations of local basketball announced the suspension of the date that should be played this weekend. “The Board of Directors of the Cordoba Basketball Association has decided to suspend the date corresponding to this weekend, of the official tournament Osvaldo “Turco” Arduh, attentive to the unilateral communication that your Institution informed us via email, regarding not directing a Club affiliated with our Association (SUE)”, prayed the notification sent to the president of the Córdoba Branch, Martín Flores.

The arbitral leader himself told Carlos Paz Vivo! that since the return of full competition after the stoppage of the pandemic, a growing level of disturbance has been observed on the part of some spectators in the stadiums, mainly worrying in the lower divisions.
