Chile and Peru approach the TAS to keep Ecuador out of the World Cup after all | World Cup 2022

The reason why Ecuador should be disqualified? It would have played the qualifying matches with a Colombian.

The player concerned is right-back Byron Castillo, who, according to Chile and Peru, is not Ecuadorian. Plus, Castillo is 3 years older than he says.

The Chilean Football Association therefore filed a complaint, supported by registration documents and a birth certificate. But FIFA rejected the complaint.

Chile is not giving up the fight and is now going to the TAS together with Peru to keep Ecuador out of the World Cup.

Peru narrowly missed a World Cup ticket in 5th place and hopes that it will get the vacant spot in the event of a disqualification from Ecuador.

Chile finished only 7th in the World Cup qualifiers in South America. But if the games Castillo played in turned out to be forfeit defeats to Ecuador, Chile would jump to fourth place and qualify for the World Cup.

Chile or Peru would then end up in the group with the Netherlands, Senegal and host country Qatar.
