Champions League: victories for Frankfurt and Leverkusen – Sport

Europa League winner Eintracht Frankfurt celebrated their first victory in the premier class in a hot atmosphere, but lost a lot of sympathy due to a questionable performance by their fans. Accompanied by some massive mistakes by some Eintracht supporters, the Bundesliga soccer club won the group game at Olympique Marseille 1-0 (1-0) on Tuesday. Now the SBU has to fear a ghost game in the Champions League.

The joy of Jesper Lindström’s winning goal (43rd minute) and the first three points that saw the Hessians catch up to next opponent Tottenham Hotspur in second place in Group D was considerably marred by the gaffes of the fans who had traveled with them. After Eintracht had been sentenced to suspended spectators by Uefa for storming the pitch in the Europa League semi-final against West Ham United, the home game against Tottenham on October 4 threatens to be played in front of empty stands.

Two late goals for Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen has also taken a step out of the crisis. The Bundesliga penultimate achieved a respectable success in a 2-0 (0-0) win over Atlético Madrid. In contrast to the 1-0 loss in Bruges at the start of the competition just a week earlier, the team’s courageous performance against the group favorites ensured that discussions about coach Gerardo Seoane should subside for the time being. In front of 25,825 spectators in the BayArena, Robert Andrich (84th minute) and Moussa Diaby (87th) helped the hosts to a deserved victory over the Spaniards on Tuesday. Thanks to the success, the Werkself kept their chance of reaching the round of 16 before the upcoming away game at FC Porto on October 4th.

Liverpool cheers late – Bruges surprises

Former Schalke Bundesliga professional Joël Matip saved Liverpool FC from a false start in the Champions League with coach Jürgen Klopp. Against Ajax Amsterdam, the defender made it 2-1 (1-1) with a header in the 89th minute on Tuesday. At the start, the Reds had failed at SSC Napoli with 1: 4.

Mohamed Salah for the 1-0 lead (17th minute). Mohammed Kudus equalized with a brilliant shot for the Dutch champion to make it 1-1 (27th). Both teams had chances after that, then Matip scored just before the end.

Club Brugge managed their second upset in Group B after beating Bayer Leverkusen 1-0. The Belgian title holder even won 4-0 (1-0) at FC Porto and leads the table with six points. The Spaniard Ferran Jutglà (15th / foul penalty), Kamal Sowah (47th), Andreas Skov Olsen (52nd) and 17-year-old Antonio Nusa (89th) scored in Porto’s constant rain. The hosts remain without points.
