Lewandowski was involved in his first game in the premier class for Barca with a triple pack at the Schützenfest. In the group C hit in Milan, Marcel Sabitzer and Bayern Munich won 2-0 (1-0) at Inter. In Group A there was a fireworks display not only in Naples but also in Amsterdam: Ajax sent Glasgow Rangers back to Scotland with a convincing 4-0 (3-0) win.
In Madrid, Atletico beat FC Porto 2-1 (0-0) after a turbulent stoppage time with three goals in the Spanish-Portuguese summit. FC Brugge also got off to a good start: the Belgians narrowly defeated Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 (1-0) at home. Oliver Glasner’s Eintracht Frankfurt debut in the “king class” ended with a 0:3 (0:0) against Sporting Lisbon. Tottenham Hotspur beat Olympique Marseille 2-0 (0-0) at home.
Black day for the “Reds”
Liverpool, on the other hand, had a black day in Naples. The “Reds” were quickly trailing 4-0 after some hair-raising defensive mistakes and goals from Piotr Zielinski (5th/penalty, 47th), Frank Anguissa (31st) and Giovanni Simeone (44th), and Napoli also missed Victor Osimhen Penalty (18′). The guests did not manage more than the consolation goal from Luis Diaz (49th). The Neapolitans have to give way to Ajax Amsterdam in the table for the time being. The Dutch didn’t miss a beat against Glasgow Rangers thanks to goals from Edson Alvarez (17′), Steven Berghuis (32′), Mohammed Kudus (34′) and Steven Bergwijn (80′).
Bayern got a deserved win in Milan. The opening goal went to Leroy Sane, who rounded inter-goalie Andre Onana after an ideal pass from Joshua Kimmich (25th). Inter initially put more pressure on after the break, but were lucky in the 65th minute when Kimmich shot the pole after Onana made a mistake. A few seconds later, the Munich team formed a remarkable combination through the Milan defence, Danilo D’Ambrosio steered a Stangl pass from Sane into his own net. Sabitzer already saw that from the bank, the ÖFB-Internationale had been replaced in the 61st minute.
In Barcelona, the fans celebrated ex-Bayern striker Lewandowski. In the 34th and 67th minute, the world footballer brought in by FC Bayern scored with placed shots from just outside the sixteen, in between Lewandowski was successful with a header from close range shortly before the break (45 + 3) and thus tied the triple pack. The Catalans scored more goals from Franck Kessie (13′) and Ferran Torres (71′). Next Tuesday there will be a summit between Bavaria and Barcelona in Munich.
Crazy finish in Madrid
In Madrid, the duel between Atletico and Porto only became really spectacular in injury time. Substitute Mario Hermoso made it 1-0 in the 92nd minute, after which he caused a hand penalty which Mateus was lucky to convert (96′). In the eleventh minute of added time, “Joker” Antoine Griezmann managed to make it 2-1 for Atletico. After 81 minutes, Porto were outnumbered after Mehdi Taremi was sent off.
In Brugge, just 19-year-old Abakar Sylla became the home team’s gold goalscorer against Leverkusen. The teenager was able to celebrate scoring in the 42nd minute with the help of Bayer keeper Lukas Hradecky. The Finnish custodian was already sure of Sylla’s header, but fell into the goal with the captured ball. After the break, the Germans thought they scored twice, but both of the Werkself’s goals were disallowed for offside.
