Central German Championships U18/U21 on September 17th and 18th, 2022

On such a chilly and rainy September weekend, there’s nothing better than getting up early and spending the day at a gym. That’s what those who placed in the state championships U18 and U21 thought last weekend, who had qualified for the central German championships in Halle with their good performances in Riesa. Were there on Saturday for the U18 Finn and Matteo as well as their dads. Weixdorf then got through on Sunday Emma, Lea and Ludwig represent. Lea’s mum took care of the transport here.

After the weigh-in, the state coach warmed up for the Saxons on Saturday. The “big ones” on Sunday had to warm up themselves and then things got down to fighting action in the large athletics hall.

Finn started -55 kg (9 participants) against Salim (Erfurt, orange) with a well-developed grip and a chic Uchi-Mata on Waza-Ari. He immediately used the transition from standing to the ground to hold on and thus made the victory clear. In the semi-final it was up against Vogel from Eisenach (brown), who went at a very high pace in the grip fight and caught Finn somewhat unnecessarily with a deep Seoi-Nage. It was difficult for Finn to consistently enforce his own hold and so the Thuringian was unfortunately able to counter an O-uchi/Ko-uchi combination with a sweep. The next fight was about 3rd place. Feldbusch, the next brown belt from Eisenach, was waiting with an equally unpleasant grip. Despite strong accents, Finn couldn’t find the right concept today and fell victim to an o-uchi-gari followed by arrest. A 5th place for Finn.

Matteo started -60 kg (8 participants) and unfortunately did not go into the tournament quite fit the days before due to an infection. Against the Jenaer Undeutsch (blue) he could not present his approaches with the last consequence and was unfortunately countered twice. And also against the brown belt Völkel (Erfurt) there was no flower pot to be won in the standing. Matteo freed himself twice as strong as a bear from a Sankagu but also had to take a counterattack while standing. Matteo had tried to get everything out and came off the mat quickly and everyone with the sobering realization that unfortunately half strength is not enough for an MDEM. It’s a shame, but we still gained experience! After the competition is before the competition!

Glitter team from Saturday

Ludwig had it -81 kg also to do with 8 participants and unfortunately also had to compete weakened by infection. Black belt Graupner (Eisneach) put enormous pressure on Ludwig when standing. Ludwig was able to avoid scoring and the fight continued on the ground where he was in a supposedly advantageous position. I couldn’t even look that fast, he whirled through the air and found himself in the hold. In the consolation round it was now up to the brown belt Koch from Rodewisch. As the fight progressed, Ludwig was able to establish his grip better and better, but waited too long and was punished with an uchi-mata on waza-ari. After that, Ludwig increased the pressure and the attack frequency. Unfortunately, the Vogtlander used an inconsistent approach, from which Ludwig left again, to sweep. But Ludwig was also able to gain a lot of experience today and now knows which construction sites have to be fixed by the BEM in January.

Emma started -57 kg (6 participants) in the upper pool of three first against Marschner from Rammenau (brown), put her under pressure with her neck grip and was able to fight a Waza-Ari for a hip technique and bring it over time. In the second pool fight, it was against Engelmann (Schmölln, brown), who had the edge with a counterattack. With second place in the pool, Emma was in the semifinals and met Aumann (indoor, black) who had the better end with a Waza-Ari and subsequent hold. With that, Emma took a respectable 3. Platz, with which she was able to qualify for the German Championships in 4 weeks in Frankfurt/Oder! Congratulations!

Lea had it +78kg to do with 3 other participants. The first thing to do was against Lilo Barich, against whom she had had quite a hard time at the state championships. But with consistent and concentrated grip work, she clearly had the upper hand today. After a Waza-Ari lead for a counterattack, after a good preparation for the throw, she followed up with a hip technique and a consistent pulling arm on ippon. In the 2nd fight it was against Ackermann (Bad Salzungen, brown), who she also loaded onto her hip and was able to hold in the subsequent arrest. Unfortunately, Lea won the 3rd fight without a fight because her opponent had injured herself in the previous fight. So the 1. Platz for Lea and thus also the ticket for the Germans in 4 weeks. Congratulations.
