The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcarazrecent winner of US Open and youngest number one in the history of the men’s circuit, assured that, after achieving the goals he longed for as a child, now “it’s time to continue dreaming”, in order to “be among the best for as long as possible”.
“I dreamed of being number 1 in the world and winning a Gran Slam. It’s time to keep dreaming, keep winning tournaments and be among the best for as long as possible, ”he said at a press conference for the BMW car brand, one of his sponsors.
“Juan Carlos has been very important to me, he has experienced everything that I am experiencing now. It is easier for him to give me advice and at the same time this is very important. We have not yet assimilated what has happened because from New York I have gone straight to the Davis cup. I still haven’t stopped to think about what I’ve done and what needs to be improved in the future. Getting there is complicated, staying even more so, ”she continued.
An Alcaraz who, when asked by EFE, spoke of the best advice he has been given to be able to handle the pressure and everything that surrounds him on a day-to-day basis when he is at the top of tennis.
“It is a path that they have been telling me a lot. Always be humble, be with your people, don’t let the results and the moment go to your head; know where you come from. Both my team and the people around me have told me; let him be himself,” he answered.
“Now you are shy about doing certain things that you used to do completely normally, but I get along with everything. But not all. If I want to go for a walk I go for a walk and if they ask me for photos I like it, knowing that people support me gives me peace of mind, it makes me see that I do not play alone, ”she expanded.
“It hasn’t been a pressure that I’ve put on myself to think I’m achieving the ‘Big 3’ things –Nadal, Federer y Djokovic-. I just enjoy playing tennis; And that’s where the results come from. Many times I bring smiles in tense moments or when things go wrong, and it is simply because I enjoy being on the court. Why am I going to compare myself to them? It doesn’t make sense, they’ve been around for 20 years and I’ve just started,” she said of the comparisons to some of the greatest tennis players in history.
A ‘Big 3’ that gives way to new generations, led by Carlos Alcaraz, who answered who he thinks will be able to take part, along with him, in this classification.
“Sinner, without a doubt, and Zverev. With Sinner there is going to be a very nice rivalry and our matches are worth watching. Play them not so much (laughs). We are going to play in great stadiums and great moments. Also, we are friends off the track; as Rafa and Federer are friends outside, I think we are going to have that rivalry”, he pointed out.
