VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks will start the season without Brock Boeser, who has just had surgery on his hand.
The team said the 25-year-old right winger was injured in training camp Saturday in Whistler and will be out for three to four weeks.
Boeser had 23 goals and 46 points with Vancouver last season as his father’s health declined.
Duke Boeser died at the end of May, after a long battle with cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
Selected 23rd overall by the Canucks in 2015, Boeser had 121 goals and 256 points in the NHL regular season in 324 games.
Vancouver will open the regular season on October 12 in Edmonton.
