Cali defeats America in women’s classic with riots

América de Cali and Deportivo Cali met in a new edition of the women’s Valle del Cauca classic. The greens beat the reds 1-0 at the Pascual Guerrero, at stake valid for the second day of the Idolas Cupa friendly tournament in preparation for the Women’s Copa Libertadores in which the two teams will represent Colombia in the international tournament.

In the first half, both teams had several goal options, however, the lack of definition added to the good work of goalkeepers Natalia Giraldo and Vanessa Córdoba prevented the scoring from opening. A few minutes before the end of the first half, the fans of both teams clashed in the eastern stand so the match had to be stopped for a short period.

At minute 72, the scoring was opened in favor of Deportivo Cali with a great goal from a still ball. Paula Medina asked for the ball and took a great free kick that went over the barrier and beat the América de Cali goalkeeper. In the last minutes, the central judge expelled Manuela Pavi for a double warning.

In the first game, Atlético Mineiro beat Olimpia 1-0. With this result, the Azucareras are leaders with perfect points, six units out of six possible, while the Scarlets are third with one point. On the last day they will face the Brazilians and the Paraguayans, respectively.

Also, this Tuesday Deportivo Cali and América de Cali will meet their rivals in the group stage of the Women’s Copa Libertadoreswhich will be played in Ecuador from next Thursday, October 13.
