Bundesliga: DFL is holding preliminary talks with investors about media rights

Under the direction of Managing Director Donata Hopfen, initial talks were held with potential investors for the media rights of the German Football League.

Die German football league has held preliminary talks with investors for the possible partial sale of media rights. According to the “kicker” on Friday, eight companies presented themselves to a DFL working group. This is part of a “structured schedule” announced by DFL Managing Director Donata Hopfen at the General Assembly in mid-August.

In Dortmund, Hopfen spoke of a “multi-stage strategy process”. The internal preparations were complete, she said at the time: “After the support, we will start the formal process today.” According to a report in the “Handelsblatt”, it is about a volume of four billion euros.

In Dortmund, the DFL had announced “the examination of the option of a strategic partnership that would bring growth capital and know-how to future fields for the league and clubs”. The aim is to “develop a template that the 36 professional clubs will decide on”.

Club approval is required. In May 2021, the DFL General Assembly decided not to continue talks about an investor participation in a DFL subsidiary for foreign marketing.
