Richarlison gets banana thrown at him after goal for Brazil

Precisely on an evening that was all about the fight against racism, Brazilian international Richarlison has been thrown a banana.

“This time I saw it with my own eyes. This shocks us all,” said Brazil Football Federation president Ednaldo Rodrigues. “We must remember that we are all the same regardless of skin color, race or religion.”

The incident took place in Paris, after Richarlison’s goal against Tunisia. Brazil won the game between the two World Cup-goers in the Parc des Princes 5-1.

Special message

Before the friendly match, the Brazilian national team posed behind a sign that read ‘without our black players, we wouldn’t have stars on our shirts’.

This message was in response to the monkey noises recently made to Vinícius Júnior, during his club Real’s derby with Atlético Madrid.

“Racism must be punished more severely. The fight against racism is not about one thing,” Rodrigues continued. “We need a fundamental change to eradicate crimes like this from the world.”

Richarlison and captain Thiago Silva comment on the incident:
