Biarritz snatches the draw on the wire in Nevers

Biarritz Olympique, relegated to Pro D2 after a nightmare season in the top flight, snatched a 22-22 draw at Nevers on Thursday evening at the start of the 4th day.

Led 22-15, the Basques were heading for a third consecutive defeat when a last-minute try from Joe Jonas (80+4) and a corner conversion from Gilles Bosch allowed them to take the two points from a draw. They temporarily go up from 14th to 10th place while Nevers nibbles three places (4th) before Friday’s matches.

Before this breathtaking final, the Biarrots had scored two other tries, by Thomas Sauveterre (25th) and Bastien Soury (60th), against one from Lucas Blanc (39th) for the Burgundians.

Nevers, despite his numerical inferiority after the red card from his third row (41st), believed he had a third success in a row thanks to the efficiency at the foot of Shaun Reynolds (5 penalties including one at 52 meters). But it was without counting on Basques united and more players, finally rewarded.
