Belgian Cats lose in last practice match for the World Cup of host country Australia | World Cup basketball

The Belgian Cats had to chase the entire game. After a disastrous first quarter, they were 22-5 in debt. The Belgian women saw the gap grow at half time to 39-20.

After the break, the Cats looked better. They systematically nibbled at their backlog, but the gap was no longer closed. At the end of the game it was 65-61 on the scoreboard. Earlier this week, Belgium also lost to Japan.

Julie Allemand became the top scorer for the Belgians with 11 points. Also Antonia Delaere and Hind Ben Abdelkader, back in action after she had been given a rest against Japan, finished in double figures (10 points), Emma Meesseman finished with 6 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

Twelve players got into action. National coach Valéry Demory still has to decide who will get the last place in the final core: Elise Ramette or Serena-Lynn Geldof. Ramette didn’t play against Australia, Geldof got just over 5 minutes.

Coming Thursday they open their World Cup with a top poster against the United States. Then South Korea (23/9), Puerto Rico (24/9), Bosnia-Herzegovina (26/9) and China (27/9) await. The top four advance to the quarter-finals. You can watch every game of the Cats live on Sporza.
