Before the tournament in Tallinn, Ostapenko moves up two positions in the second ten of the tennis ranking / Article

Alona’s rise in ranking was ensured by reaching the finals at the Seoul tournament, where she was the main favorite. On the other hand, in Tallinn, Ostapenko is seeded with the fifth number, but the potentially strongest participant is the host Anete Kontaveita, who dropped one position in the latest ranking and is the fourth racket in the world.

Ostapenko will meet the experienced Estonian Kaija Kanepi (WTA 32nd) in the first round, but this match will not take place on Monday.

Latvia’s second racket Daniela Vismane played in the qualification in Tallinn, failing to overcome the first round, where she lost to the Swiss player Viktorija Golubiča. Wismane will participate in the main tournament in doubles, where her partner will be the Greek Valentini Gramatikopula. Ostapenko has not applied for doubles.

The Tallinn tournament will take place until October 2, with tennis players playing on hard surfaces and fighting for a prize pool of more than 250,000 euros.

In the WTA ranking, Polish Iga Šviontek still maintains a convincing leadership position, followed by Tunisian tennis player Onsa Jabert.

Ostapenko’s best WTA ranking in singles is No. 5, which she achieved in March 2018. Alona was in the top ten for the last time in mid-September 2018.
