Basketball: the Ivorian federation confirms Déjan Prokic as the main coach of the Elephants

The Ivorian basketball federation (FIBB) announced on September 6, through a press release, the confirmation of coach Déjan Prokic in his role as main coach of the national team of Côte d’Ivoire.

Arrived as an interim during the preparation and participation in the 4th window of the 2023 World Cup qualifiers which took place on August 26, 27 and 28, 2022 in Abidjan, Dejan Prokic succeeded in convincing the Steering Committee of the FIBB and the National Technical Department on its technical capacities and its ability to lead the elephants for future deadlines, explains the press release.

Thus, thanks to “his coaching” in the absence of head coach Naxto Lezkano, Dejan Prokic, allowed the Elephants to win their three matches against Nigeria, Uganda, Cape Verde and qualify for the World Cup.

“The FIBB would also like to thank Lezkano Moya Ignacio, for his self-sacrifice and the exceptional work accomplished at the head of the Elephants since 2020, and wishes him the best for the rest of his remarkable career”, indicates the text which recalls that Natxo Lezkano led this team in the last Afrobasket and the first two windows.

Côte d’Ivoire is the first African nation to qualify for the 2023 World Cup which will be held concurrently in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines.
