Badminton. Paul Tournefier: “I’ll remember it! – Badminton

Top 12 (1st day). Rostrenen – Chambly: 3-5

Anaïg Sibéril, the multitasking secretary, photographer and unconditional lover of her BC Rostrenen, wept with joy when Paul Tournefier – for whom it was also a first at this level – scored the first point for the center-Breton club in the Top 12 It was like a deliverance. “I did not believe it,” breathes the wife of Jacques, the president. As proof that their BC Rostren (Breton style) was therefore in its place at the top of hexagonal badminton.

In front of dad, the girlfriend and the brother

The story is beautiful. It is all the more so since Paul Tournefier (18) was trained until last year by Martin Boiveau at the Pôle Espoir in Nantes. Martin Boiveau, the pillar of this Rostrenoise team, its captain, arrived at the club 12 years ago when he was still playing in Departmental 1. A crazy enthusiast, too, who couldn’t help but jump for joy when his protege raised his fist in victory.

This ultimate joy, Paul Tournefier also shared it with his father, his girlfriend, Inès, and his little brother, Thomas (14 years old) who played the opening match against the Rostrenois reserve (2-6). The Cellier club, near Nantes, is the cradle of family ambitions. “Paul started with multisport, says David, the dad. But we quickly saw that he had a predisposition for racket sports. He had the choice between table tennis and badminton”. We know the rest. Until this famous snatch point in front of his comrade in Talence, Sacha Lévêque.

“An exceptional atmosphere”

“We had played on Wednesday in training and he had largely beaten me, says Paul Tournefier. He is the 9th French player, me 20th. I’m super happy to have brought this point back, ”smiles the French hopeful, amazed by the atmosphere which reigned in the small hall of Porz Moëlou. “It was exceptional!”

It must be said that David, the father, had turned into chief ambiancer, trumpet in his mouth. “Paul told me that his training week hadn’t been good. But it’s like in music: when you do a bad rehearsal, the concert is always successful, ”laughs the person concerned.

The Rostrenois ball was still packed when Xue fei Qi, although mistreated in the first set (5-11, 6-14 but 22-20), brought a second point to Rostrenen. He was downright inflamed after the pretty refrain offered by the Danish rookie, Julie-Dawal Jakobsen (3-2 at that time). Other encounters, as expected, were out of reach. But the partition was successful. “We brought back the defensive bonus. Frankly, that’s cool. I will remember that! exults Paul Tournefier, already nicknamed “Paulo” by Rostrenois supporters. “The surname ? No problem, I’m fine!”
