ATP > Nadal and his improbable confession about Federer’s coronation at Roland-Garros in 2009: “I cried with emotion, even though I didn’t want him to win because I had a chance of becoming number 1 in the world”

Definitely, Rafael Nadal turns out to be a particularly sensitive man and very attached to Roger Federer since the official retirement of the latter during the Laver Cup.

Appeared in tears and totally inconsolable during the farewell ceremony for the Swiss, the Mallorcan recently revealed during an interview for Spanish radio COPE’s Great Match that he also cried with emotion when his greatest rival won his very first Roland-Garros in 2009 after biting the dust in the round of 16 against Robin Soderling, runner-up against Roger that day.

“When Roger won Roland‐Garros in 2009, I cried with emotion even though I didn’t want him to win because I had a chance of becoming world number 1. He deserved it after coming so close to the title for the past four years.”said a very honest Rafael Nadal and particularly marked by the end of his friend’s career.
