Anderlecht continues to look for themselves and returns from Romania with a bloodless draw | UEFA Europa Conference League 2022/2023

No European boost for Anderlecht. Just like the Romanian FCSB, the Purple & White did not score in a particularly poor match. FCSB had the best chances and both teams escaped a penalty kick. With 4 out of 6 Anderlecht remains firmly second in its group.

FCSB – Anderlecht in a nutshell:

  • Man of the match: If no one plays to it, the star role goes to a goalkeeper. Both Tornavanu and Van Crombrugge made a claim, because both made good saves and kept the 0. Although Van Crombrugge had more work, so the RSCA goalkeeper has the benefit of the doubt.
  • Remarkable: Both teams should have been awarded a penalty, but Gishamer, the Austrian referee, misjudged the situations – and not just in these two phases. Van Crombrugge flashed his attacker down after a blunder and Esposito was clearly run over.
  • Striking (2): Both teams should have scored. In the first half Fabio Silva gave in too weakly without confidence, in the second half Cordea did not punish a counterattack.

Van Crombrugge gets away well, Silva forgets to score

In a sweltering national stadium in Bucharest – both in terms of atmosphere and weather – Anderlecht went in search of rehabilitation. Wearing a black mourning band in honor of Mister Michel, it started the match with many good intentions. Except, apart from the chances of Ashimeru and Amuzu, it was just that.

A signal for a counter-offensive by FCSB. Anderlecht moaned under the Romanian pace and Van Crombrugge had to save the furniture.

He also made a mistake himself. After careless landing, he let the ball slip out of his hands and pulled his opponent down. Penalties have been awarded for less…

FCSB remained the most threatening team, although Anderlecht were able to take the lead just before half-time. Fabio Silva just lacked confidence.

Almost a death blow and again no penalty

Anderlecht restored the balance in the second half, but they had to wait for opportunities until Arnstad tried to break the game from afar with a shot from afar. His shot was not well aimed, and Rafa’s rebound was equally unsuccessful.

Despite the input of Verschaeren, Duranville and Esposito, Anderlecht almost got the lid on the nose.

After a quick counterattack, Cordea, the goalscorer against West Ham, came face to face with a receding Van Crombrugge, but he made the wrong choice – luckily for RSCA.

Esposito was allowed another penalty after he was run over in 16. The Austrian referee again did not whistle against the logic of the game.

Anderlecht had undoubtedly hoped to boost confidence in Bucharest. However, it never got the jack up and in the end can be happy that FCSB did not score.
