1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card breaks records with $12.6 million sale

The final sale price for the 1952 SGC Graded Mint+ 9.5 Mickey Mantle “Rosen Find” baseball card has been revealed. Sold by Heritage Auctions, the rare Grail Map was estimated at US$10 million when it was initially listed, but has now broken all records with a final sale price of US$12.6 million.

This now exceeds the previous most expensive baseball card sale at $6.6 million for the Honus Wagner and is now the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia sold – toppling the 9.3 million “Hand of God” jersey dollars from Diego Maradona.

Chris Ivy of Heritage Auctions comments: “We always knew this card would shatter records and expectations. But that doesn’t make it any less exciting to participate in an auction where a single item crosses the eight-figure threshold for the first time. This is an extraordinary achievement for our wonderful team of sports experts at Heritage Auctions. And, of course, we couldn’t have done it without our shipper, Anthony Giordano, who trusted Heritage to bring this incredible map to market.

In other collectible news, Muhammad Ali Rumble in the Jungle The WBC belt sold for US$6.18 million.
