The European Handball Federation (hereinafter – EHF) European Championship in the U18 age group will take place from August 8 to 14 in Riga at the “Rimi Olympic Sports” center, while the EHF EURO U18 or 16 best European team competitions will take place from August 4 to 14 in Montenegro.

For the second summer in a row, the Latvian Handball Federation (LHF) has the honor of organizing one of the EHF YAC (Younger age category) tournaments. This year, the national teams of Kosovo, North Macedonia, Luxembourg, Belgium, Turkey and Switzerland will arrive in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The Latvian U18 national team is managed on a daily basis by Arnolds Straume and Ivars Lācis, who work at the Murjaņui Sports Gymnasium. The general secretary of the LHF, Līga Bīriņa, expressed her satisfaction with the honor entrusted to the LHF: “It is great to organize such events and we are pleased to be one of the countries that are trusted and that can survive this event from the organizational point of view as well. Considering that there are no strict Covid19 restrictions this year, we are glad that our foreign guests will have the opportunity to enjoy Riga and get to know a small part of our country. We invite everyone to join us and enjoy not only the handball court, but also the atmosphere and Riga.”

The Latvian national team will play in subgroup A against North Macedonia, Turkey and Kosovo, while in group B the national teams of Switzerland, Luxembourg and Belgium will play.

The first match for the Latvian national team is on August 8 at 16:30 against Kosovo, on August 9 at 16:00 against Turkey, and the final subgroup match on August 11 at 16:00 against North Macedonia.
