WTA: winning return of Eugenie Bouchard in doubles, at the Vancouver tournament

In her first match in nearly a year and a half on the WTA Tour, Montreal’s Eugenie Bouchard scored a doubles win on Sunday in Vancouver.

Bouchard and his playing partner, his 17-year-old compatriot Kayla Cross, prevailed 6-1, 6-7, 10-4 against Italians Lucia Bronzetti and Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

Operated on a shoulder in June 2021, Bouchard will play his first singles match since March of the same year on Monday.

The former world No. 5 will face Dutch Arianne Hartono, ranked 125th in the world, in this WTA 125K caliber tournament.

Bouchard, who is 28 years old, was able to participate in this competition thanks to a pass from the organizers.

Other Canadians playing in the singles tournament are Rebecca Marino, Carol Zhao, Vasek Pospisil, Alexis Galarneau and Gabriel Diallo.
