The Latvian started the final competition with a long jump of 6.12 meters, but the next two attempts were closer – 5.95 and 6.02 meters. After three jumps, the Latvian was tenth in the competition of 12 finalists, but the eight best athletes continued the competition. She had to jump seven centimeters beyond her best attempt to proceed to the finals.

Bulgarian Plamena Mitkova became the world junior champion, who jumped 6.66 meters in her best attempt in the final. Colombian Natalia Linjares jumped seven centimeters closer, while Italian Marta Amani jumped another seven centimeters closer.

To qualify for the finals, long jumpers had to clear 6.40 meters or finish in the top 12 in Wednesday’s preliminaries. None of the 31 athletes who took part in the selection met the qualification standard, but the Spaniard Evelina Yankeja jumped the farthest – 6.34 meters, who settled for the seventh place in the final on Friday.

Zemīte jumped a distance of 6.08 meters in the first jump, remained without a result in the second run, but improved her result by five centimeters in the third (6.13) and entered the finals with this result as 12th. A jump four centimeters closer would leave him out of the finalists.

The championships will end on Saturday, when only Agate Caune, who will compete in the 5000-meter run, will start from Latvia.
