The Venezuelan will have his second start of the year this Sunday, in the fourth game of the First Playoff
Veracruz- The right-hander William Cuevas is ready to have his second appearance with the Red Devils of Mexico and it will be in Game 4 of the First Playoff, this Sunday at the Beto Ávila Stadium.
“The plan is the same, I do my job, trust the team and play our baseball, what we have done so far,” Cuevas explained.
The Venezuelan arrived at the capital’s squad in the final part of the campaign and could not shoot until the last day of the season since he went through a rehabilitation process for an injury that had him not pitching since April.
“I have had to be quite patient and it is difficult because the atmosphere with my teammates makes you want to be on the pitch. Here I have had to trust a lot in what the coaches tell me and now I have to go back to the field again”, continued the Venezuelan.
After some bullpen sessions, on Sunday, August 7, he opened the game against the Guerreros de Oaxaca, the last day of the Regular Season, throwing only two-thirds of an inning.
“It was very strange because the feeling I had from the mound was no longer the same. I was more aware of what I was feeling than the result and thank God what I felt was good, my arm responded to me”, continued William.
The 31-year-old right-hander, born in Caracas, has experience in the Major Leagues, where he pitched from 2016 to 2018 with the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers, adding 13 appearances, 12 of them as a reliever.
After that, he emigrated to the Korean League (KBO -Korean Baseball League-), where he pitched from 2019 to 2022. There he was part of the KT Wiz, with whom he was champion in the 2021 Season. That campaign opened 23 games, concluding with a record of 9-5, with a 4.12 ERA.
Now, the right-hander gets a chance to get back on the mound to start a game, and it’s a postseason clash on the road.
