Downhiller Veronika Widmann had nothing to do with the medal award in the final of the World Championships in Les Gets, France, but she was able to improve compared to the qualification.

In the qualifying run, Widmann had to settle for 12th place. At the final on Saturday, the Traminer went one step further, was significantly faster and ended up in 8th place. After the first two intermediate times she was in 10th place, especially in the final section she knew how to convince and was able to make up 2 places with a courageous finish.

The 29-year-old never had anything to do with the awarding of the medals. Almost 20 seconds were missing from the victorious Valentina Höll from Salzburg. The Austrian came out ahead of the German Nina Hoffmann (+0.90 seconds) by a hair’s breadth, third place went to the French Myriam Nicole (+3.44 seconds), the fastest in the qualifier.

Eleonora Farina was also unable to intervene in the fight for the medals. The Azzurra finished 7th ahead of Widmann (+16.69). Even in qualifying, Farina made people sit up and take notice with the third fastest time.

In the downhill men, all medals went to France. Loic Bruni led the French triple ahead of Amaury Pierron (+2.581) and Loris Vergier (+3.386). Stefano Introzzi, the only Azzurro to take part, finished 37th (+12.392).

On Sunday, the final cross-country races will take place as part of the Mountain Bike World Championships in France. The U23 women start at 9 a.m., then Pustererin Noemi Plankensteiner will also be there. At 1 p.m. the elite women will start with Greta Seiwald, who impressed on Friday with 6th place in the short track (SportNews reported). At 3.15 p.m. the race of the elite men is on the program, then Gerhard Kerschbaumer from Verdingen also has his grand entrance.
