Why Zirkzee could not prevail at Bayern

Joshua Zirkzee (21) will probably leave Bayern again. Why it wasn’t enough for the talented attacker in Munich.

The impression was right, also in the USA. Those responsible at FC Bayern liked the spirit with which Joshua Zirkzee went through the preparation. The tall striker was in a goal mood and went to work with commitment.

Before the season even started, Julian Nagelsmann grabbed the 21-year-old and told him in a lengthy conversation that Robert Lewandowski’s move to FC Barcelona could be a chance for him. “There are certain things that he does outstandingly,” says Nagelsmann today about Zirkzee and lists: “He has great talent, has a very intelligent finish, has a good header game, has very good movements in the sixteen, basically has a parade -Body.”

If you add up these points, Nagelsmann’s conclusion is not really surprising: “He actually got everything you need to be a top striker.” Actually.

Zirkzee lacks the last punch, the last force

The truth is that Zirkzee, who recommended himself with 18 goals and 13 assists in Anderlecht last year, has not played a minute in all four competitive games this season, most recently missing twice from the squad. “In certain situations, he has to take a step more once or twice,” recommends Nagelsmann. Zirkzee is still missing the last punch, the force, as the trainer puts it.

FC Bayern will probably not wait for this development any longer, FC Bologna from Serie A seems to be in the running for Zirkzee, VfB Stuttgart and former club Anderlecht were also interested. “We’ll see,” says Nagelsmann, but he’s certain: Zirkzee can develop outstandingly – “for every club”.
