Russian clubs were excluded from European competitions after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, and the national team was also excluded from qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar. The International Federation of Football Associations FIFA allowed foreign footballers to leave Russian Premier League clubs in a special transfer window.
