the Swiss Kambundji in gold on 200 m, the French Grebo 6th

The Swiss got her revenge in the 200m after narrowly missing gold in the 100m on Tuesday.

The Swiss Mujinga Kambundji, deprived of the European title in the 100m for 5 thousandths on Tuesday, was crowned in the 200m on Friday during the European Athletics Championships in Munich.

Kambundji, silver medalist in the 100m in 10 sec 99 at the end of an epic race won by the German Gina Lückenkempauer, completed a supersonic final stretch to beat in 22 sec 32 the double title holder, the Briton Dina Asher-Smith (22.43), in the lead at the beginning of the turn, and the Danish Ida Karstoft (22.72).

At 30, Kambundji won his first individual European gold medal, after having already won the title in the 60m at the World Championships in Belgrade, indoors.

At the last European Championships in Berlin, Kambundji had failed at the foot of the podium in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay.

Continental sprint star Dina Asher-Smith, three-time reigning European champion in the 100-200 and 4x100m, closed her individual diptych without a gold medal around her neck. On the straight line on Tuesday, she finished in last place in the premier event after suffering from cramps.
