The Playoffs – Washington Football Team’s Montez Sweat Says He’s “Not A Fan” Of Vaccination

NFL athletes are turning the Covid-19 vaccination into a real controversy. This Wednesday (9), it was the turn of defensive end Montez Sweat, from the Washington Football Team, to speak out against it.

The franchise brought in a vaccine expert to educate players about immunization, which left Sweat unhappy: “I’m not a fan of that,” the third-year defender told reporters Wednesday, according to Sam Fortierdo Washington Post. “I probably won’t be vaccinated until I get more information and all that kind of stuff. I’m not a fan of that.”

Washington took Kizzmekia S. Corbett, an assistant professor in the department of immunology and infectious diseases at Harvard University, to introduce players to the benefits of vaccination. To date, less than half of the franchise’s athletes had been vaccinated. The NFL has encouraged athletes to get vaccinated, but has not, so far, made it a requirement to play in games.

Contrary to what happens in Brazil, where a little more than 10% of the population has been fully immunized, vaccination in the US is advancing rapidly. So far, 141 million people in the country (43% of the population) are fully vaccinated.
