The Hag criticized Ronaldo for leaving the friendly match early

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has criticized Cristiano Ronaldo for leaving the stadium after being substituted at half-time in Sunday’s warm-up with Vallecano.

For the thirty-seven-year-old Ronaldo, it was the first start for United in preparation. He previously missed tours of Thailand and Australia in an attempt to negotiate a move to one of the Champions League clubs that the Red Devils missed out on.

Against Vallecano (1:1), the five-time Ballon d’Or winner played the first 45 minutes and then substituted. Footage of him leaving Old Trafford with teammate and compatriot Diogo Dalot before the end of the match appeared in the media.

“And it wasn’t just Ronaldo who went home” Ten Hag later told the Dutch TV station Viaplay. “However, something like this is unacceptable and I have already told the players. We are one team and therefore they must stay until the end.” he added.

United kick off the new Premier League season on Sunday with a home game against Brighton. It will be Ten Haga’s competitive debut on the United bench. Under his leadership, the club also awaits the European League.
