Such a beating caused the death of Matteuzzi, who was still alive when the ambulance arrived that unsuccessfully tried to transfer her to a hospital to save her.

Although the neighbors called the police upon hearing the screams, the first to arrive at the scene of the crime was a minor. The Italian site FanPage revealed that the boy, whose father was a neighbor of the victim, was horrified to see the blood splattered on the floor and when he met Padovani’s gaze, he told him: “I’m not mad at you, I’m mad at her, I can’t wait for the police to arrive, I want to end it all.”

The 27-year-old soccer player did not resist the arrest and some testimonies indicate that he confessed to having been the author of the crime, although when he had to testify before the judge he chose to remain silent on the recommendation of his lawyer.

For its part, the Caltanissetta club, from the fourth division of Italy, reported that it broke the contract with the footballer. The team’s lawyer, Salvatore Pirrello, spoke to Italian television: “We have known him recently, he has been with us for a few days, so I am not able to identify him as characteristics. However, he had a relationship with all his teammates, with the coach. We understood for two or three days that he had some problems.” He obviously was shocked by what happened.

Meanwhile, the investigating judge of the Court of Bologna, Andrea Salvatore Romito, ordered the ppreventive prison for Padovani for aggravated homicide by stalking at the request of the prosecutor Domenico Ambrosino. The main defendant did not give a statement.

In the order that validated the arrest, the judge argued: “The personality of the suspect animated by an irrepressible delirium of jealousy and unable to calmly accept the occurrence of adverse events, such as the termination of a relationship characterized by sporadic encounters are a manifestation of exceptional danger and absolute uncontrollability”.

But the media pressure points directly against the authorities for their lack of action. It is that Matteuzzi had denounced the footballer for harassment at the beginning of the month and had not received any help. According to the Bologna prosecutor, Giuseppe Amato, the investigations began as soon as the report was received but since some people involved in the operation were on vacation. Therefore, at the time of the crime, the corresponding work had not yet been completed to determine how it should proceed.

Padovani, 27, played in Napoli’s youth divisions until 2013, when he was even called up to Italy’s under-17 team. However, he never debuted in the light blue box and began a career in the Italian ascent that led him to wear shirts for more than 15 clubs. His last team was Caltanissetta, in which he was just a couple of weeks.
