Enes Kanter Freedom continues to have his say on the NBA. Freedom, who hasn’t played an NBA game since the Boston Celtics handed him over to the Houston Rockets – where he was promptly revoked – took to Twitter to express what he believes is an injustice in the NBA.

Freedom said an NBA assistant coach – whose name was kept anonymous by the former Celtics center – quit his job because he felt attacked for openly voicing his conservative views. After releasing the conversation he had with this assistant coach, Freedom went on to say that what this coach went through was unacceptable.

I just spoke to one of the @NBA assistant coaches. He has been attacked all season because 1) Who supports, 2) He is a Republican. He felt so uncomfortable and quit his job at the end of the year.

This is unacceptable. pic.twitter.com/Ab7zgn9TYT

Freedom has not publicly stated that he is a Conservative, but on February 7, 2022, it was confirmed that Freedom would be a speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), thus strongly suggesting that he leans precisely on the political spectrum.

It’s hard to know where freedom really lies on the political spectrum because he openly criticized former US President Donald Trump in 2016 and backed current President Joe Biden when he was president-elect.

Congratulations to my great friend, President-elect @JoeBiden ????????

No matter where he is, one thing is certain is that Freedom will give his opinion on a topic if he feels he needs to talk about it. Although, according to the horse’s mouth, his teammates would have told him to stop.

Freedom was felt by Celtics teammates

In an interview with ReasonTV, Freedom said that during his second round in Boston, several teammates warned him that talking against Nike and China would lead to the end of his NBA career once the season is over.

“I remember my teammates coming to me one by one in the locker room and saying, ‘You know this is your senior year, right?’ You won’t be able to get any contracts after this. ‘ They said to me: ‘Listen, you attack Nike. You attack China. You will never play another minute for this championship again. ‘ I was like, wow, they were really telling me (that) this is it. Just because I was talking about the situation that is happening in China. I exhibit Nike and some other companies and stuff like that.

Freedom insisted on speaking anyway and continues to do so. He believes that speaking out against China was what led the NBA to belittle him.

Freedom says speaking openly ended his career

In an interview with Israeli outlet Walla, Freedom said that because his words about China could potentially hurt the NBA’s profits, the league blocked him.

“Listen, the Chinese market is a significant part of the business in the NBA,” Freedom explained. “So they’ll let you talk freely about whatever you want until it hurts your pocket. As soon as you do that, they will cut you. It is very sad and unacceptable ”.

Freedom added that he doesn’t regret what he said because he believes what he represents is bigger than his basketball career.

“I knew in advance that I would pay this price and I do not regret anything. These things are bigger than me, bigger than the NBA and bigger than basketball. While dribbling in America, people are being killed around the world or imprisoned and tortured in prisons. If this is the sacrifice I have to make, I’m ready to live with it ”.
