Red and white preparation that continues sent under the dictates of coach Matt Brase who, in these first weeks of work, has already put his imprinting in a strong and decisive way in the training methodology of the new OJM 2022/2023, starting from some central characteristics in his way of training, in his method of strong USA mold.
COMMUNICATION
It immediately catches the eye of anyone who has attended at least one training of the team in Val D’Aosta (in Varese for the time being it is impossible as the working sessions remain closed to the press and the public by choice of the company), that the new white and red coach is one who likes to talk a lot. He explains in detail every single move to his players, be it 1vs0, 5vs0 or 5vs5 work. A communication made up of many gestures, simple and clear words, to instill the concept of play in the minds of the players without too many problems. A communicative method that goes beyond the tactical explanation and which is also made up of laughter, jokes and lots of smiles, which make the whole work environment stimulating and at the same time very relaxed.
TOTAL INVOLVEMENT
It is directly linked to the first point, communication. The way of doing things, of interacting with the team, of approaching the group, leads coach Brase to create a total involvement of the roster, both emotionally and technically-tactically. No one is excluded from the exercises, every player, even the young men, is made to work as a candidate for the next red and white starting five. A working methodology in which Brase himself fits perfectly, always being in the middle of the group and never detached from it and which leads to the goal repeatedly emphasized by the GM Arcieri: healthy competition within the team in every training . Competition that leads the roster to always work with great intensity and rhythm, qualities that must be the basis of the new Varese Basketball.
INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT
Immediately you notice the attention to detail, movement, the spasmodic and continuous search for perfection in movement and play. A process of continuous attention to the work of the individual, which can then be brought to the service of the group in the team play phase. A working methodology, the latter, which goes from passing, shooting, to pick’n’roll movement to pick’n’pop, in full player development style, the central fulcrum of the new course.
FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
Left to each player with the opportunity to experiment, try, search for a different movement or solution, trying to make the latter a source of personal development of the player and consequently, of the team. Emblematic in this is Woldetensae’s training in shooting from 9 meters, refined and continuous, under the watchful eyes of coach Brase or Owens’ search for medium and long distance shooting, certainly not to its peculiar quality, at least at first sight.
