The Basques Iñigo Peña and Begoña Lazcano have managed to get on the podium in the European Canoeing Championship that is being held in Munich. The former has won his second medal in a European event in the K4-1,000, and the third if we take into account the World Championships. On this occasion he has won the silver medal in a regatta that has been disputed until the end. The second has been done with the medal in the K2-1000 test.

Peña, along with Paco Cubelos, Roi Rodriguez and Pedro Vazquez, have flown at the start of the Munich regatta center. They have taken a different strategy than usual, trying to catch all their opponents by surprise, especially all the Germans, their main adversaries. Thus, they have done practically 900 meters in first position, but the effort has taken its toll on them in the last meters. They finished with a time of 2:53.627 (+0.453), entering the finish line behind Germany and ahead of Hungary.
