The 1st Getxo-Gijón Cantabrian Regatta began in the Abra with 25 boats

Scoring for the Plus-One 50+ League, it began with little wind at 1:00 p.m. with a long coastal regatta and will end later with several routes in Asturian waters

The I Getxo-Gijón Cantabrian Regatta, III Approches Trophy, organized by the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club and the Real Club Astur de Regatas, began this Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. with little wind at the start in the waters of the Open. 25 boats from Biscay, Gipuzkoa, Asturian and Cantabrian sail to complete this route of about 125 miles between the ports of Getxo and Gijón. After the arrival of the boats in the Asturian town, the tests will continue there on Friday with a windward-leeward at 4:00 p.m., a coastal one on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) and the fourth on Sunday -another windward-leeward- starting at 13 hours.

The fleet is divided into two divisions: IRC Division (Regatta, Cruise I and Cruise II) and Plus-One 50+ Division (regatta for which the League is scoring). In this I Getxo-Gijón Cantabrian Regatta, which started with little wind from the northeast at 2-3 knots, boats from the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club participate, such as Javier Chávarri’s Rat Pack, Miguel Arriola’s Mueyu, Carlos Maidagan’s Despeinada, Juan Carlos Estefanía’s Kohen, Miss Daisy by Eric Jáuregui, Jon Garai’s Thelonious, Javier Sanchidrián’s Kantarepe Iru and Aitor Agirre’s Negus II; in addition to the Marmotinha de Koldo Báez -the latter from Orza-. The Asturians from Alfredo Flórez’s Taxus Medio Ambiente, Ricardo Simal’s Wanted and Miguel Suárez’s Orbayu II will be under the banner of the Real Club Astur de Regatas and Luis Noguera’s Bullbox from Puerto Ría de Avilés. The Gipuzkoans of José Luis Artola’s Mirua (Hondarribia) and Josu Portularrume’s Andarax Bi (Zumaia) also emerged from the waters of the Abra.

The Cantabrian representation is extensive with the Impredigital by Emigdio Beida, the Aizen by Gustavo Arce, the Mylla by Javier Sánchez and the Marieta by Pedro Guijarro (Real Club Marítimo de Santander); the Go Blue of Ángel Herrerías (Royal Nautical Club of Castro Urdiales); and the Kenex V by Ignacio Giménez and the Kraken by Sergio Salcines (Real Club Náutico Laredo). The list of crews is completed by Claudio Doce’s La Saiola and Juan Moris’s Nawja (Virgen del Mar).
