Kvitová had to go to a three-set battle in two of the three matches. She underwent this already in her first match with the Swiss Teichmann, and after a generally smooth progress over the Romanian Cirstea, then again with the world number five Džabirová, to whom she finally awarded the “canary” in the decisive action.
Kvitova will face Tomljanovic, who made it to the tournament from qualification, for the first time ever on the WTA circuit.
