Tennis/Davis Cup: “It’s a shame that we didn’t take 1st place but we promise to do the essentials for the next edition for that, we will need very good preparation” (William Bushamuka)

The Tennis Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), gentlemen took part in the Davis Cup qualifiers. It was in Kigali in Rwanda. They took 3rd place in the general classification after their success against their Sudanese counterparts for the classification match played this Saturday, July 9th.

As for the gentlemen, they were competing to join the 3rd group of this world competition because they are currently in the 4th group of the Africa zone. To do this, the technical staff, led by Jean-Escartin Luhembwe, counted on the services of Christian Saïdi, Arnold Ikondo, Bienvenu Bolangi and William Bushamuka. Congolese athletes faced those from Angola, Botswana, Congo Brazzaville and Togo.

“We trained well and we played well with the whole team. It was a good tournament because it was our first participation. It’s a shame that we didn’t take 1st place but we promise to do the essentials for the next edition for that, we will need very good preparation. Start before to allow us to have a very good cohesion. We had a few problems twice and that’s what it will be necessary to correct”, confided William Bushamuka on their return to Kinshasa

The Fauves Congolese could have reached the final if they had not lost to their Togolese counterparts (1-2) in the last match of the group stage. They had won their first 3 matches against Botswana, Angola and Congolese from Brazzaville.
