Teammate threatened NBA superstar to stab him in dressing room during halftime

Two-time NBA champion Vernon Maxwell more than lived up to his nickname “Mad Max.” His biggest failure came in February 1995, when he completely lost his composure, first insulting a heckler in a hall, then arguing with a teammate before approaching the stands and the fan for a crushing right hand.

Now, during an appearance on the No Chill With Gilbert Arenas podcast, Maxwell revealed that he once wanted to severely harm even a Superstar teammate.

NBA scandal in the 90s: Maxwell threatened Olajuwon with broken glass

“Mad Max” said he threatened to pursue Hakeem Olajuwon and even “stab him” if police failed to stop a fight between the two at halftime in Seattle.

The Rockets had a poor first half back then and Maxwell was absent from the field. While Maxwell felt his teammates weren’t passing the ball to him often enough, Olajuwon had a very different feeling.

Olajuwon yelled at Maxwell before slapping him across the face. “That motherf**er hit me so hard I fell over.”

Police pointed guns at NBA star at halftime

Maxwell responded by throwing a chair at Hakeem. He then picked up a large piece of glass and threatened to stab Olajuwon with it. The police came to the Rockets locker room to intervene, even leading to them pointing their guns at Maxwell – and that was at halftime of an NBA game!

“I jumped up, grabbed my chair and threw it at him, breaking glass in the dressing room. Everyone ran out. The police come in with their guns drawn and they’re like, ‘What the hell is going on here?’ Damn, they pointed their guns at me at halftime in a basketball game. At an NBA pro game!”
