Tahiti….Looking back at the Thomas Cup in Aarhus 2021 – BadmintonBladet

Ceres Area, Wednesday evening, October 13, 2021.

Thomas Cup match between Holland – Tahiti. Tahiti? Sure!

2HS stole all the attention that night as Remi Rossi won Tahiti’s only match at TC 21-16 / 23-21 over Robin Mesman.

The audience howled and cheered, as I have rarely seen a Danish audience. I watched the match live from my press box at the other end of the hall and after winning the first set, everyone knew that something special was going on here.

At the same time, Germany – France played a close match. Of course. The old hereditary enemies. The Germans won 3-2. And Denmark played against Korea and won 4-1, where the victory was already at home after a 3-0 lead after 3 relatively undramatic games.

Males it was Remi’s match, most followed. Tahiti….complete underdogs. Invited at short notice due to cancellations from both New Zealand and Australia.

Germany was also only included due to Russia’s cancellation. Oh yes….Russia. We probably won’t see them for now!

Afterwards, Remi gave a brilliant interview, where the joy of the victory bubbled out of him, and he must have been told that it should be celebrated out in the city……he completely forgot about the bubble that all the players were officially in. Apparently there were more players from different nations who didn’t take it too seriously, which their social media clearly showed.

Thanks to Aarhus for a fantastic week.

Thanks to Højbjerg BK’s chairman for good organization of us volunteers.

Thanks to everyone in the small press room – we had a great time!
