KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Royals reliever Amir Garrett has had his suspension for throwing a drink at a fan reduced to two games.

The initial suspension was for three games, under the agreement between Major League Baseball and its players’ association.

Garrett was penalized by MLB senior vice president Michael Hill for an incident that occurred Aug. 2 in a game against the Chicago White Sox. He began his sentence on Tuesday evening and will finish it on Wednesday. Garrett was also fined an undisclosed amount.

Following the incident, Garrett apologized in a tweet on Twitter.

There was no appeal, but it was heard by Major League Baseball senior adviser John McHale Jr.

Garrett should be available Friday, when the Royals begin a three-game series at home against the San Diego Padres.

Garrett is 3-1 with a 4.08 ERA in 44 games this season. He played the first five seasons of his career with the Cincinnati Reds.
