In the mixed doubles, Debora Jille and Ties van der Lecq (WR-76) started against Solis Jonathan / Diana Corleto Soto (WR-66) from Guatemala. After a difficult start, the Dutch duo finally won convincingly with 17-21, 21-10 and 21-10.
Meeting with Olympic champion
Mark Caljouw (WR-28) played in the first round of the men’s singles against Jia Hen Jason Teh (WR-87) from Singapore. The 27-year-old Dutchman won 21-13 and 21-14. In the second round, Caljouw will play against reigning Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen from Denmark.
Debora Jille and Cheryl Seinen, the number 38 in the world ranking in women’s doubles, took on the Ukrainian duo Yelyzaveta Zharka / Mariia Stoliarenko (WR-64) in the first round. The Dutch couple played a solid match and won 21-13 and 21-14.
Later this week, Olympians Robintabeling / Selena Piek (mixed doubles) and Ruben Jille / Ties van der Lecq (men’s doubles) will compete for the first time.
