Sold Out Spa-Francorchamps wants to convince F1 with lots of bells and whistles: “F1 must stay here” | formula 1

The circuit of Spa-Francorchamps is currently still being worked on. Next week the F1 drivers will sign again, but that may be for the last time.

The contract with F1 owners Liberty Media expires this year and it is no longer a secret that the Spa-Francorchamps organization has to throw all the weight in the bowl to stay on the calendar.

“We have not yet signed a new contract”, it sounds in Spa-Francorchamps, “but we want to show F1 every day that we are a mythical and historic circuit. And that we think about the future. We think that F1 is a future with Spa.”

So there are dark clouds over the circuit, just like last year. Then the rain-soaked GP took a bad turn. There was no racing and for the spectators it was a real nightmare.

“There’s always something happening here. Our GP is interesting to watch.”

“We can’t compete with countries from the Middle East, but we have our DNA and we show that we are working for the future.”

This process is accompanied by innovations in the stands and in the paddock, an adapted mobility plan and more atmosphere experience around the circuit. For example, they want to do everything they can to keep Spa-Francorchamps on the calendar in 2023.

“We are improving safety and also the reception of the spectators. There is going to be a huge show. If you add that up, F1 has to stay here.”

The Belgian Grand Prix is already sold out, the organizers announced today during a press conference. Daily 120,000 visitors are expected, good for a total of 360,000 visitors over the entire race weekend.

A significant part of that comes from the Netherlands, to see reigning world champion and current World Cup leader Max Verstappen at work, but it is still a boost for the organizers, now that the future of the legendary GP seems to be hanging by a thread.
