Serious line through (bank) account: Anderlecht and Club Brugge lose Belfius as sponsor | Jupiler Pro League

In recent years, both Anderlecht and Club Brugge have been sponsored by the state-owned bank Belfius and its insurance subsidiary DVV on the one hand, and by Candriam, which manages the investment portfolios of high-net-worth Belfius customers, on the other.

It would be serious amounts. Club Brugge is said to receive 1 million euros annually from Candriam to put his brand name on the back of his shirts. Club Brugge’s new practice complex was also given the name Belfius Basecamp.

Belfius is the main sponsor of Anderlecht. Candriam and DVV alternate on the front of the shirts and the brand names can also be seen everywhere on the billboards in the stadium. The practice complex at Anderlecht also officially bears the name of the state bank. All in all, Anderlecht would receive 2.5 to 3 million euros per year for this.

Belfius says in a response that the termination of its sponsorship is part of cost savings and a change of strategy.

Both clubs should not immediately look for new sponsors. The contract with Club Brugge runs until the end of this season (2022-2023). At Anderlecht, the contract that runs until the end of the 2023-2024 season will be fulfilled.

At Anderlecht they don’t fall out of the sky. “Anderlecht was informed in time that Belfius would not extend his contract. It then concerns shirt sponsorship. The clubs also know that this is finite.”

“The contract still runs for two full seasons, there is still plenty of time to find and work out an alternative. Moreover, Anderlecht does not rule out that the collaboration with Belfius will continue in other ways.”
