Serena Williams has been able to win at the highest level for the first time in more than a year. The American beat Nuria Parrizas, the number 57 in the world, in 2 sets at the WTA tournament in Toronto. A relief after a disappointing comeback at Wimbledon.

Serena Williams had to work up a sweat to put Nuria Parrizas aside for about two hours, but the release afterwards was all worth it.

After a 6-3 and 6-4 in set positions, the 23-time grand slam winner was delighted. She won a competition for the first time in more than a year full of injuries.

And then there was that failed comeback at Wimbledon, where she was no match for Harmony Tan in the first round. A painful defeat that Williams can now flush.

The former number 1 in the world, who has completely sunk in the world rankings, is preparing for the US Open in Toronto. In her own country she wants to shine as usual at the age of 40. But first Belinda Bencic (WTA-12) waits in the 2nd round.
