Like every Friday at the end of the course, Béatrice, Joséphine and their session partners are smiling and nothing has marred their good mood.

After 45 minutes of muscle strengthening with rubber bands and swiss ball, then 45 additional minutes of practical simulation and work on striking shields, the end of the session feels good.

This course of self defense took place in the premises of the former Honoré-Pons high school in Saint-Nicolas-d’Aliermont, near Dieppe (Seine-Maritime) where self-defense slots are dedicated to women from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“We will learn to defend ourselves”

It is Jérôme Bara, a judo teacher, who is in charge. “The course is intended for all those who want to learn how to defend themselves in the modern world”, he specifies. The course is accessible both to women accustomed to tatami mats and to those who have never set foot there.

In this course, the objective is twofold: to gain self-confidence and to understand the stakes of an attack. Jérôme Bara adds:

“We will learn to defend ourselves. Being aware that you are capable of reacting allows you to change your approach, to be more sure of yourself. »

And therefore, to be a less attractive target for the aggressor. “The interest of this course is to learn to adopt the right gesture, the right technique to get out of a difficult situation and sometimes an attack” explains the professor.

Understand the law

The legislative aspect is not forgotten with the causes of criminal irresponsibility in particular. This is why the texts dealing with self-defense and the state of necessity are dissected one by one. With this arsenal, the objective is always to gain self-confidence.

“You don’t need to have practiced ten years of martial arts to directly kick an attacker in the lower abdomen,” he continues.

To perfect the physical condition of their members, Jérôme Bara and Matthieu Monchicourt, the two teachers of the association, were given a grant a few months ago by a Dieppe merchant. This allowed them to buy Kettelbell, dumbbells and other undulating ropes.

Remember that the judo ju-jitsu team also offers judo lessons to young children from the age of 3. These take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. depending on the age group. The resumption of classes is scheduled for Monday, September 5.
