At Club Brugge they were already busy on the transfer market this summer. The counter currently stands at four newcomers, but there will certainly be more. Ferran Jutgla and Cyle Larin came in the front and a talented left back was also brought in with Bjorn Meijer. In addition, Club also paid 5.5 million euros to steal Casper Nielsen from Union.
The arrival of the Danish midfielder was prompted by the long absence of Mats Rits. The 29-year-old midfielder has grown into a key player in recent years, but suffered a serious knee injury in the play-offs. As a result, he will be sidelined until at least January and so Club started looking for a replacement.
That does mean that after New Year’s, Rits will have a hell of a job to regain his starting position. “That makes sense, isn’t it. In the meantime, Rits seems to be missed at Club Brugge, where Carl Hoefkens does not seem to have found the right formula in midfield yet. On the opening day of the match he still opted for the young Noah Mbamba and Ruud Vormer in support of Hans Vanaken, but in Eupen suddenly Eder Balanta and Nielsen played. He will also change again against Zulte Waregem on Friday evening, because Balanta did not even make the selection for that match.
