The home game of 1. FC Köln II against RW Oberhausen had to be stopped in the 89th minute on Friday evening when the FC-U21s were 4-1. Supporters from both camps had stormed the pitch in the Franz Kremer Stadium.

According to “Express”, a flag theft by Cologne fans was the trigger for the tumult. Oberhauseners then wanted to recapture the flag and stormed out of their block. The police had to use pepper spray.

First, referee Marc Jäger from Euskirchen interrupted the game for ten minutes. After an announcement, the spectators were asked to leave the stadium. The FC and RWO teams stayed in the cabins.

1. FC Köln said on Twitter: “We will discuss the background and condemn any form of disregard for respectful interaction and fair sporting behavior. We feel sorry for the real fans who have seen a great game up until then and for our boys who were close to winning the season.”

Niklas Hauptmann (3rd), Denis Huseinbasic (33rd/77th) and Maximilian Schmid (57th) had scored for Cologne before the game was stopped. The meanwhile 2:1 for the guests scored Anton Heinz (37th).

After the game was abandoned, Cologne was threatened with defeat at the green table.
