PV Sindhu wins badminton women’s singles gold

PV Sindhu made the nation proud of her efforts in Birmingham by winning a gold medal in the women’s badminton singles event with her win over Canadian Michelle Li.

The Indian commuter won the yellow metal with a dominating performance as she earned a 2-0 victory in straight sets against the Canadian.

Sindhu established an early advantage which she maintained to close the opening game of the all-important final 21-15. The Indian had perfect control of the game and never seemed troubled by her Canadian rival.

She continued to assert her superiority in a match where the Canadian was forced to run from end to end in an attempt to recover Sindhu’s killer shots.

Sindhu took her foot off the pedal when the game was about 12-7 in her favor as she left the door open for the Canadian to close in on her. But, the Indian’s survival instinct kicked in as she never let Li within 4 points of her reach.

Sindhu had 7 championship points to take and converted it the first time he asked to claim the coveted title.

She ended the match 21-13 to the delight of the following Indians in Birmingham who were on hand to watch the Andra Pradesh commuter win gold in the 2022 edition of the friendlies.

The badminton ace opened his Commonwealth Games campaign with his 2-0 round of 16 win over Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzak.

She carried on her good form in the next round as she picked up another win against Uganda’s Husina Kobugabe after claiming a two-game lead to nil in her favour.

Hyderabadi were on a roll as they secured a 2-1 victory over Malaysia’s Jin Wei Goh as the Indian dominated her opponent after losing the opening set. She entered the semi-finals of the event with her triumphs 19-21, 21-14 and 21-18.

She booked her place in the gold medal match by once again beating Singaporean opponent Jia Min Yeo 2-0 in straight sets to earn a shot at the gold medal.
