In a duel with DFB star Havertz |
Horror injury in the Premier League
It hurts just to look!
Everton central defender Ben Godfrey (24) was seriously injured in a duel with DFB star Kai Havertz (23) in the Premier League opener against Chelsea.
Starting point: a failed back pass from the central defender to his goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (28), who is on his way out of goal. To prevent the corner, Pickford scrapes the ball off the line. However, directly into Havertz’s feet. As Godfrey runs back and tries to stop Havertz, he lands unhappily on his right foot. He seriously injured his right lower leg.
Everton manager Frank Lampard (44) explained after the game:
“It’s a small fracture of the fibula. We think he will be out for two or three months.”
Very bitter: In the second half, Yerry Mina (27), another central defender for the “Toffees”, had to be replaced injured.
Everton’s need for a new centre-back has increased enormously following the two injuries. According to English media reports, they are about to sign Conor Coady (29) from Wolverhampton Wanderers. In the room is a loan with an option to buy. Lampard is a big fan of Coady, who did not feature against Leeds on Saturday.
At Everton, they hope the deal can be finalized before the next league game against Aston Villa (Saturday 1.30pm).
